Clinical Governance  – Overview, Emerging Initiatives and Challenges

  • Overview of the emerging challenges and latest government initiatives in disability care  

  • The pillars of clinical governance and its foundations and Core elements for all clinical governance frameworks  

  • Understanding what frameworks are best in practice for your organisation and how to implement them to support the delivery of NDIS Practice Standards 

  •  Symptoms of clinical governance failure and catastrophic failure related to failures in clinical governance  

  • Developing a clinical governance leadership ethos to support better engagement and outcomes for participants, support networks, practitioners and organisation as a whole

  • Effective Board Communication: Master the art of concise board communication post the Royal Commission recommendations. Streamline reports by focusing on critical information for impactful decision-making.  

  • Address incident trends, work health safety, and high-risk areas and learn effective strategies to present this critical information to the board.  

  • Discuss strategies to convey urgency for specific actions to improve organisational outcomes.  

  • Embed a continuous improvement and learning culture to deliver clinical governance and support participants outcomes.

  • Establishing a timeline for effective auditing, reviews and associated reporting to measure outcomes and effectiveness  

  • Implementing and resourcing effective systems for management of human resources, training and continued professional development for improved staff engagement and continual improvement  

  • Identify and determine what and how to report to the governing body and why

Review a range of tools and resources for auditing to improve the quality of care for patients

Unconscious Bias, Open Disclosure and Redress

  • Review case studies from the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability to explore unconscious bias and ableism  

  • Recognise environmental risk factors and implement relevant strategies to establish a safe community for staff, participants and their support networks  

  • Implement systematic feedback and communication strategies to assist in the reporting and rectification of environmental risks  

  • Gain a nuanced understanding of the components of open disclosure and redress. Explore aspects ranging from financial compensation to counselling services and support
